The UK’s leading specialist in transaxle and 1960s to 1990s Alfa Romeos
I inherited my passion for Italian cars, and almost as soon as I could lift a spanner I was lucky enough to be restoring my own Alfa Romeo GTV6 and Giulietta.
Our preparation of classic Italian race cars is meticulous and aimed at assisting our clients maximise the pleasure and performance at the wheel. For me though this is a sideshow to the main event…enjoying a car from the drivers seat. My true passion usually involves going sideways around Goodwood Motor Racing Circuit where I once worked with Mithril Racing.
My trade was learned under the watchful eye of Chris Snowdon and, after studying mechanical engineering in Bristol, I set up Alex Jupe Motorsport in 2001. Cars we have restored by regularly feature amongst the concours awards at Alfa Romeo Owners Club (AROC) national events.
We operate from a workshop in the village of Bosham, just a few miles from Chichester on the West Sussex/Hampshire border.
“It’s not a job, I enjoy it too much!”
Alex Jupe Motorsport promises a first-class job of servicing your Italian car, to give it a clean bill of health. Oil changes, cam-belt changes, carburettor and electronic ignition adjustments and gearbox and brake repairs of classic Alfa Romeo, Lancia and Fiat cars are a speciality.
We carry out upgrades for Alfa Romeo V6, Twin Spark and twin-cam "Nord" engines to suit every budget. Our tuning service includes supplying and fitting high-lift cams, gas flowed cylinder heads and full racing-spec rebuilds. Fiat Dino engines are a speciality, we also have extensive experience in the Fiat / Lancia twin cam and Fiat 130 V6.
We carry our everything from light bodywork repairs to full, bare-metal restorations and good-as-new re-builds. A large stock of used and refurbished parts is available to replace items no longer in production. Alfa Romeo's transaxle models, i.e. Alfetta, GTV6, 116 Giulietta, 75 and SZ have become a particular speciality of ours. But we also work on Alfa Romeo Giulia 105 series cars, Fiats and Lancias, notably the Sprint GT/GTV coupe (a.k.a. Bertone), Dino coupe and Montecarlo.
We will help you get the most out of your car on the track. Our recommended R S Racing suspension kits for Alfa 75 and 116 series Alfa Romeos, have an uprated anti-roll bar and coil-over ‘helper’ springs at the front. This equipment virtually eliminates understeer.
Our ‘Quick shift’ gearstick modification for 116 series (transaxle) Alfa Romeos reduces the long throw between gears and allows a faster, more precise gear change.
We also supply and fit our own "fast road" handling kit for those on a tighter budget, but wanting to sharpen up the handling of their transaxle Alfa on the road or for the occasional track day.
Alex sourced a great donor car and was transparent about costs, options and timing all the way through the build. The team offered practical advice and their experience with the 75 helped greatly.
The final build was exactly what I was looking for and Alex has continued to maintain/upgrade the car over the past 6 years with the same passion and to the same high standard.
I first met Alex when I bought a 3.5 Alfa GTV6 from a customer of his in 2008. Since then he’s looked after every Alfa I’ve owned. He even helped me find a lovely Fiat Dino in Malta, and prepped it for a successful road trip to Italy.
Owning and enjoying an Italian classic requires lots of love and patience. And an honest and passionate expert to guide you through the experience. Alex has always delivered that, along with a perfectionist eye for detail.
Being the fortunate owner of a number of classic cars, it is always the GTV6 that receives the most attention and highest praise, which is a true testament to Alex's work.
Alex is the only specialist I will go to for my GTV6 as his knowledge of classic Italian cars across all marques, especially Alfa's seems to be bottomless. In addition, he always seems to be able to source parts that otherwise seem unobtainable on the market.
I would not hesitate to highly recommend the comprehensive services of Alex and Alex Jupe Motorsport, for the very best care and attention for your Italian classic, be it routine maintenance or ground-up restoration.
Alex and his team provide a fabulous service for anyone wanting first rate care for their Alfa Romeo, especially for an Alfetta. He took my '85 GTV6, which I had owned for 35 years, and with great attention to detail transformed it from a typical 'garage find' to a pristine, modernised and roadworthy car.
Thank you for the expertise and energy you put into the project and your straightforward honesty which you displayed in our dealings.
