1984 Alfa Romeo Alfetta GTV6 2.5

Although an ’84 car, in South Africa they still had the original ‘split dash’ for most of the production, in this case fitted with factory Air Conditioning, although this is not currently commissioned. The photos of this car speak for themselves. This has to be one of the best GTV6’s in the country. Having led a clearly pampered life in the dry Johannesburg climate she has NEVER been welded nor does she exhibit any signs of rust. Given the cost of a proper body restoration on most U.K. domiciled GTV’s this in itself makes the asking price more than fair before one thinks of taking into account all the recent work listed below.

The main reason Kevin bought this particular car was the provenance of legendary Alfa specialist and race preparation guru Dawie De Villiers of Glenwood Motors. He had been looking after the car for the previous owner since 2016. In 2017 the then owner commissioned the following work by Dawie, backed up by documentation signed by Dawie himself:

1. Remove engine from car and carry out a complete strip down. Due to the low mileage the internals proved to be in very good condition.

2. Crankshaft polished and new standard size bearings fitted.

3. Cylinder liners rehoned.

4. New piston rings fitted.

5. Cylinder heads lightly skimmed and new valve guides and stem seals fitted to recut valve seats.

6. New cambelt and tensioner rebuilt.

7. Oil pump stripped, checked and reassembled.

8. Full new gasket and oil seal set fitted.

9. New water pump.

Since the above work was completed just under 2000 miles have been completed.

Upon arrival in the U.K. Kevin spent a fortune on parts to bring this car up to better than new standard. All the invoices for this, along with U.K. registration papers and MOT, import papers and previous South African documents are in a beautifully presented leather bound file. The parts invoices alone total just over £5000. All the work was carried out by Kevin himself, using correct factory tools where needed in the AJM workshop.

1. Complete running gear, suspension, gearbox, propshaft etc stripped from car.

2. All suspension componets were stripped of bushes, ball joints and bearings then shot blasted, zinc primed and powder coated.

3. All nuts, bolts & brackets were either replaced with new or replated in the original finish.

4. All bushes, ball joints and bearings were replaced with new using polyurethane for the Caster arms, Watts linkage and A-frame.

5. New Koni Sport adjustable shock absorbers.

6. Alfa 75 3.0 V6 front anti-roll bar (40% stiffer than the original GTV6 item).

7. Gearbox stripped, cleaned and the casing painted in aluminium effect paint.

8. 1st to 3rd gear inner synchromesh rings replaced.

9. 1x outer sunchromesh sleeve replaced.

10. Gearbox reassembled with new oil seals and fresh oil.

11. Propshaft stripped down, repainted & checked (this was rebuilt in the last 5 years with all new parts and has covered minimal mileage since).

12. New gearbox mounts and differential mounting bush.

13. New gear linkage bush kit.

14. New reverse light switch.

15. Rebuilt drive shafts with new C.V. boots.

16. Original twin plate clutch rebuilt using new friction plates, pressure plate and release bearing and rebalanced to ensure smooth operation.

17. New front & rear brake discs, hoses and pads.

18. Rear brake callieprs stripped and serviced.

19. New steering rack track rods, track rod ends and rack gaiters.

20. Period correct and desirable Revolution RFX wheels refurbished with new UniRoyal Rainsport tyres fitted.

21. While all the running gear was removed the underside was steam cleaned, then any loose sealer removed before being sprayed in stone guard paint then sprayed in colour to match the exterior.

22. New door seals and plastic door card liners fitted.

23. Radiator flushed, pressure tested and repainted.

24. Fans stripped, cleaned bearing pads re-oiled and then reassembled.

25. New heater valve.

26. New thermostat & bleed screw.

27. Major engine service with new fluids, sprak plugs, cam belt, auxiliary belts, oil pressure gauge sender, fuel, oil & air filters.

28. Fuel tank drained, new fuel lines and jubilee clips fitted and new fuel pump mounts.

29. New engine bay sticker set, battey cut off switch fitted and last, but not least all fuses replaced with new.

30. MOT’d at 16/10/19 with zero advisories.

As can be seen from the list is endless and she really has been treated with a ‘no expense’ spared approach. To find a car just completed to this level become available just after completion is almost unheard of, so represents a truly one off opportunity to aquire a virtually standard specification GTV6 that is literally ready to jump in and drive across Europe, or show with pride at the ever increasing number of superb classic car events. Having driven her myself I can vouch for this being one of the best driving original specification GTV6’s out there.

Description:

This superb GTV6 belongs to none other than well known aficionado and respected authority on the genuine 3.0 GTV6’s Kevin Rascher. Kevin purchased the car while at the begining of his 2019 visit back home to South Africa to use as his ‘run around’ while staying with his family for a couple of months (well why wouldn’t you!). However, on his return to the U.K. he decided to bring the car back here with him, the plan being to go right through it so she could be used as reliable daily transport. However, having completed her and got U.K. registration he couldn’t bring himself to put such a rare classic in such fantastic condition through the rigors and abuse that daily driving entails, so has reluctantly decided to let her find a new home where she will have a more cosseted life.
